EIFO provides €100m loan for Kernel’s 94.5 MW Vestas wind farm plus BESS in central Ukraine

Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) signed a €100 million loan agreement with Ukrainian agro-industrial major Kernel to finance construction of a 94.5 MW wind farm in central Ukraine. The project comprises 21 Vestas turbines and industrial battery energy storage systems to balance output and support grid resilience. Financing is channelled through EIFO’s Ukraine Facility for higher-risk reconstruction projects; it is EIFO’s second wind financing in Ukraine.

Why it matters

Directly bankable mid-scale (≈100 MW) hybrid wind+BESS project in central Ukraine – core origination sweet spot. Demonstrates continued availability of export-credit and ECA-backed debt for private Ukrainian sponsors despite wartime risk. Strengthens the investment case for similar 5–100 MW hybrid assets that improve local flexibility and reduce reliance on vulnerable centralised generation.
