Ukrhydroenergo advances 197 MW BESS procurement at central Ukraine HPPs

Ukrhydroenergo issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (published 20 August 2026) for a Technical Support and Project Management Consultant for the Design, Supply and Installation of 197 MW / 2-hour BESS systems with EMS at four hydropower plants: Kyiv HPP/PSP, Kaniv, Kremenchuk and Seredniodniprovska. The project is financed under the World Bank’s Improving Power System Resilience for European Power Grid Integration programme.
Why it matters
This is one of the largest utility-scale BESS programmes currently advancing in Ukraine and is located entirely in central Ukraine. It demonstrates bankable international financing for co-located storage at hydro assets, validates the ancillary-services business case, and sets a procurement template that private 5–100 MW hybrid and standalone BESS developers can reference for offtake and financing structures.
